The first day of the Conference has come and gone, but oh what a day! Keynote speakers James H. Turner and Kei Koizumi gave incredible talks on the value and process of Science, Career Panelists Sheril Kirshenbaum, Dr. Debra Mathews, and last-minute replacement Dr. Todd LaPorte gave good advice and counsel to students, and over two dozen students presented their research findings. We've got Photos from Day 1, or you can upload your own photos to Our Flickr Group, or email them to tbridge at gmail dot com. Day Two will feature a Closing Keynote by Dr. Arie Rip from University of Twente in the Netherlands, as well as another great round of student presentations. At the end, we'll close with a Presentation of Awards, and Closing Comments.

We've published a few changes to the agenda, including revealing our career panelists, and we've been adding our Speaker Bios, as well. We'll be announcing our third keynote speaker this week before the conference goes live. We're excited at this year's turnout of over 150 registered attendees! If you're coming to the conference, please be sure to visit our Lodging & Tourism section, as well as Follow us on Twitter, as we'll be doing some neat stuff with Twitter during the Conference.

March 1st, 2009

Are you coming to the conference on Friday night? Join us for a Social Hour at Capitol City Brewing Company on New York Avenue just across from the site of the Conference. We'll have the upstairs set aside for socializing with your fellow attendees, and it's a great way to meet everyone, from attendees to keynote speakers, before the conference even begins. We're very excited for this event, and hope to see you all there:

The ST Global Consortium is proud to announce that the committee has completed the review of abstracts and will be notifying the selected speakers shortly. We reviewed 100 abstracts this year (a new record!) and have selected 70 of the best for presentations this year. We'll be doing notifications here shortly, once we've organized the panels.

October 22nd, 2008

On March 28-29, 2008, the STGlobal Consortium will hold its 9th annual conference on Science and Technology in Society at the Washington DC headquarters of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The consortium comprises AAAS, Arizona State University (CSPO), École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris (CSI), George Mason University (SPP), Georgetown University (CCT), The George Washington University (CISTP), and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (STS). This event is organized and run entirely by and for graduate students interested in studying issues related to society, science, and technology from a wide range of perspectives. The Conference brings students from around the world to present and discuss their work with each other and with invited experts/guest speakers in the field.

This year's agenda will emphasize international perspectives of science and technology. With a focus on the graduate level, this event affords a fantastic opportunity for students to gain experience presenting their work in a comfortable, but professional environment. It is also a perfect place for them to begin building connections to scholars and research programs outside of their home institutions, and be exposed to new ideas of relevance to their own research activities.

We are currently accepting abstracts for the conference. The CFP is available for download (PDF); please let your students, faculty, and any other relevant departments know about this. Please submit abstracts and contact information (with affiliation) via email to abstracts@stglobal.org by December 29, 2008.
